Excerpt”
And now a different fear and future take hold
Brown faces and pleading eyes
Arrive from south of the border
Sun-darken skin and hopeful eyes
Honduras, Mexico, and Venezuela cry
Torn from homes beneath our skies
Families seeking solace here
But walls rise and voices rage
Whispers claim it’s for security
They are pulled from church pews
From classrooms, corner shops, and parks
Wrenching them from lives just beginning
Enforcers separating kin
With a chilling, dreadful heart
Children born here may no longer be citizens.
They say it’s for our safety
A border that has turned chaotic
And needs to be defended
Yet innocent families are disappearing
Where will this journey end?
From churches, schools, and playgrounds
They vanish in the night
Taken by masked men in hoods
Armed with guns and badges shaped like stars
Hidden from sight
A chilling thought begins to take root
Could we be next in line for a flight?
